DeLorean DMC-12 Pictures

By

The DeLorean DMC-12 was the creation of John Z. DeLorean, a former GM executive. He had in mind a supercar for the people, with gullwing doors and a low, low price of $12,000. It got the doors, but not the price, and the company eventually ran into trouble. And then it ran into even more trouble when Mr. DeLorean tried to drum up a little cash in a cocaine deal -- which turned out to be an FBI sting. The car returned to the spotlight a few years later in the Michael J. Fox movie "Back to the Future," where the DeLorean DMC-12 was, appropriately, a time machine.
