Gran Turismo 5 Supercar to Hit the Real World
Tuesday June 30, 2009
The Citroen GT, previously seen on the small screen as part of the Gran Turismo 5 video game lineup, made its off-screen debut at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show. Now, Citroen says the supercar will take its next leap, from concept to production car.
The UK magazine Autocar reports that Citroen plans on building a total of six GTs, at a cool $1.8 million apiece. Several major aspects of the concept will be kept for the real-world car, like the mid-engine layout and carbon fiber body, but the powerplant will have to change. The concept had a series of electric motors that added up to more than 700 hp; the production version will likely use a gasoline engine from Ford or GM and top 500 hp.
No word yet on when the Citroen GT might be ready for delivery, so you've got some time to save up your pennies. All 18,000,000 of them. You're going to need a bigger change jar.
